THE 24-year-old Johannes Swartbooi died while trapped in the wreck of the car he was driving after a head collision with a light pick-up truck on the gravel road between Walvis Bay and Rooibank.
According to the official police report provided by the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the fatal crash occurred at around 17:00 on Tuuesday.
“It is alleged that a white Isuzu single cab pick-up with with three occupants including the driver, a 40-year-old man was travelling on a gravel road from Walvis Bay to Rooibank. About 16 kilometres from Walvis Bay the bakkie collided head-on with a silver Honda sedan with other occupants besides Swartbooi who was driving the vehicle. The sedan vehicle was travelling from the direction of Rooibank.
The three occupants of the pick-up truck and the passengers in the Honda, a 72-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl in the Honda sustained only moderate injuries.
The actual cause of the accident is not yet clear and will form part of the investigation into the matter according to Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu.
