THE Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced the outbreak of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in the Oshikoto Region.
Manga Libita, Ministry of Health Spokesperson, stated that a suspected case of CCHF was admitted to the Onandjokwe District Hospital on 26 April 2019.
Libita added that the patient is a 54-year-old female from Ontananga Village who visited the health facility with complaints of tick-bite, headache, body weakness and blood-stained vomit.
She was immediately admitted and blood was drawn and sent to the National Institute Communicable Diseases (NICD) Regional Reference Laboratory in South Africa where it tested positive for CCHF on 3 May 2019.
All person who were in direct contact with the patient are under strict daily monitoring and so far no other suspected cases have been reported.
