Clean water is a necessity

THE Oukwanyama Traditional Authority (OTA) has asked the Government to speed up the process of extracting underground water from the aquifer discovered in the region.
Speaking on behalf of OTA during President Hage Geingob’s town hall meeting held at Eenhana on Wednesday, OTA secretary, Peter Mbome proposed that that government drill more boreholes that will ensure adequate supply of water for both human and livestock in the area.

This follows complains that the Okongo, Omundaungilo, Epembe and Eenhana constituencies are faced with a lack of access to clean water and proper infrastructure.
According to Mbome, most communities in the region are without clean drinking water, which poses a health risk, while most schools and clinics also have no water and electricity.
“These and a couple of others require urgent intervention of your office,” said Mbome.
Speaking at the same meeting, Ben Shikongo, President of Namibia National Liberation Veterans Association (NNLVA), concurred with Mbome, saying that there is a need for better water infrastructure.
“The current system of constructing temporary emergency water infrastructure is too costly and insufficient, as we have to do it over and over by ourselves, while we know that our rain fall volumes will never improve,” said Shikongo.
He said that there is a need to address the issue of water infrastructure on a permanent basis.
