TWO minor children were burnt beyond recognition when the hut in which they were sleeping caught fire at the Oshikondeilwa Village on Saturday.
Police regional commander for Oshikoto, Commissioner Armas Shivute confirmed the incident and said police are investigating the death of the two boys aged 5 and 6 years, who burnt to death in Eengodi constituency, of Oshikoto Region.
According to Shivute, it’s alleged that two minor children were left alone in the house by their parents who allegedly went to attend a meeting during the morning with the Head man outside the village.
A 16-year-old sibling of the deceased little boys, who was visiting another village during the time of the Incident went back home around late in the afternoon and made the gruesome dicovery, when he found the sleeping hut that burned to the ground with his brothers inside.
“He rushed to inform the parents and found them at the cucashop at about 20:00,” said Shivute, adding that the cause of the fire is still unknown.
He identified the deceased as Amoolongo Homateni and Simon David.
“The deceased were transported to Omuthiya Police mortuary for postmortem to be conducted to determine the cause of death,” he noted.
The next of kin has been informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
