A GOBABIS man who killed his three-month old son was convicted in the Windhoek high court. He allegedly banged the child on the floor after his girlfriend told him the child would not be registered in his name but instead her ex-boyfriend’s.
The now convicted murderer, Dawid Amseb, escaped the attempted murder charge after he allegedly charged at the child’s mother, Asina Moroa. He was instead found guilty of common assault, in that he strangled Moroa.
During the trial, Amseb maintained that he was heartbroken at the fact that the mother of his child was now saying that the child would not be registered in his name. The incident happened in 2017.
In the fight, Amseb picked the baby up and hit him on the floor, leading to severe head injuries. Amseb’s version that he picked up the baby to leave with him and that he slipped when the mother held them back was dismissed by the high court.
He will return to court in March, for mitigation and aggravating factors before sentencing.
