A CHEETAH from a farm around the Windhoek-Rehoboth area was this weekend run over by a motorist.
Environment Ministry spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, said that the cheetah died on the spot as a result of the injuries it incurred upon the impact.
“No case was opened against the motorist as it was an accident. The motorist took it upon himself to transport the cheetah carcass to the nearest police roadblock, just a few kilometers outside Windhoek. It is, however, unfortunate that the cheetah died as it is a scarce and specially protected species,” Muyunda said.
The collard cheetah escaped from the farm and was bumped near the weighbridge on the road to Rehoboth.
