CHAOS ensued when traffic between Swakopmund and Arandis was disrupted for at least five hours after a truck transporting cars overturned and blocked the both lanes of the busy B2 Road.
The vehicles it was transporting lay strewn all over the accident scene making it difficult for emergency services to clear the road. Several other vehicles got stuck the the desert sand next to the road as drivers tried to find a way around the chaotic accident scene.
According to the incident report provided by the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu the accident occurred at about 19:00 approximately 25 kilometres from Arandis near the turn off to the Husab Mine.
The truck was on its way from Walvis Bay to Botswana with a cargo of imported cars and was driven by a 29-year-old man. The driver did not sustain any injuries.
However, the truck and most of the vehicles it was transporting sustained substantial damage.
Emergency workers battled until after midnight on Tuesday evening to clear the road and make it safe for motorists to pass the accident scene safely.
