Burglars loot half a million in cash

THE Namibian Police in the Hardap and Erongo Regions have requested the assistance of the public to trace suspects connected to two burglaries where N$500 000 in cash were stolen.
Although not confirmed it is suspected that the two burglaries might have been perpetrated by the same suspects.
The latest incident occurred in Stampriet during Friday night where the burglars cut through the roof of the OK Food to steal N$100 000 in cash that was held in the safe inside.
According to the incident report provided by the Public Relations Division of the Namibian Police the person or persons involved in the theft used the cover of darkness to gain entrance to the shop.

The suspects removed a small safe from the manager’s office and when the theft was discovered on Saturday morning investigators followed the tracks of the burglars to a clump of nearby bushes where the empty safe was discovered. None of the cash that were inside was recovered and the police launched a hunt for the suspects.
Earlier in the week two men, who still has to be identified, used power tools to cut through a metal wall behind the Woermann Brock Supermarket in Omaruru during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to the incident report the suspects stole N$400 000 in cash from the safe inside the manager’s office. The safe was allegedly left unlocked by staff members when the shop closed down on Monday evening.
In this regard Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikutu, the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, warned business people to take care when they work with large amounts of cash.
In the Erongo region persons with information with regards to the theft of large amounts of cash must contact Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu at 081 246 4757, Detective Inspector Litota at 081 256 5757 or Detective Sergeant Muduva at 081 213 7799.
The Namibian Police requested any person who might have information about the two burglaries to contact the nearest police station.
