THE tragic death of nine-year-old Ensley Esau Geingob in the swimming pool of the De Duine Hotel in Henties Bay might have serious complications for his friend that pushed him into the water.
According to the incident report provided by the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region the tragedy occurred at about 16:45 on Saturday afternoon after Geingob and three of his friends climbed over the hotel’s boundary wall and played in the area of the pool.
“While standing at the side of the pool a 12-year-old boy allegedly pushed the victim in into the pool. The boy could not swim very well and while struggling went to the deep end of the pool.”
According to the report the other boys ran for help and one of the employees of the hotel, who also could not swim attempted to get the victim out of the water.
“When paramedics arrived on the scene they removed Geingob from the water but by that time he had already drowned. He was declared dead on the scene.”
A case of culpable homicide was registered at the Henties Bay Police station and the matter is still under investigation.
