THE mother of a new born baby, that was found alive after being dumped in the bushes near the Okaanjdje Village in the Oshana Region on Monday, is currently under police guard in the Oshakati State Hospital.
A case of baby dumping was registered with the Police after villagers discovered the new born in the bushes near the village.
Oshana Regional Police spokesperson Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, confirmed the incident to Informanté on Tuesday, saying that the crying baby boy was found in the bush by villagers who then alerted the police.
“The baby was taken to the Oshakati State Hospital where he is admitted at Ward 14,” said Aiyambo.
According to him, the mother was also traced and she is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital but is admitted to Ward 4.
Aiyambo noted that the woman, upon enquiry admitted that she was alone when she gave birth to a baby boy at about 16:00 on Monday and that she dumped him in the bush unharmed.
The Police’s investigation into the matter continues.
