IN another hit and run incident in Windhoek, an unidentified male pedestrian was killed today after he was bumped by an unknown driver.
The accident reportedly happened on Florence Nightingale’s Western bypass bridge and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to City police Spokesperson Fabian Amukwelele, the victim, whose age is also not yet known, suffered severe head injuries.
The latest incident comes just a week after 38-year-old cyclist, Ingrid Scholtz, was killed by a 41-year-old driver in a hit and run.
The suspect was arrested three days after the accident following police investigations.
“Why are our drivers such cowards to flee the scene of an accident? You messed up, so face the music. You can run but you cannot hide. It is unlawful to leave the scene of an accident and when you get caught, your charges will be more severe,” said emergency official, Sean Naude.
In another accident involving a pedestrian, a 23-year-old man sustained minor injuries after he was bumped by a taxi.
It is alleged that the man was first bumped by a cyclist as he was walking on a sidewalk between Kornalyn and Begonia Street in Katutura. A confrontation ensued between the two and the victim tried to run away and was thereafter bumped by an oncoming taxi.
Another pedestrian was reportedly also bumped in Groot Aub this morning, but managed to escape with slight injuries.
