Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Coordinator for the Ondangwa Urban Constituency by-election, Rauna Nkandi, announces the official result at the end of the final vote counting process held earlier on Sunday morning.
Out of 16 000 potential voters registered for the election only 3 792 cast their votes at 21 polling stations throughout the constituency on Saturday.
The Ondangwa Urban Constituency of the Oshana Region has been without a councillor since March, following the appointment of the former councillor Elia Irimari as the new Regional Governor.
Another by-election is expected in the Oshana Region for the Oshakati-East Constituency, following the death of Councillor Lotto Kushomwa earlier this month.
The Ondangwa Urban Constituency by-election was won by Swapo Party candidate Leonard Negonga with 1 936 votes, followed by the independent candidate Angeline Immanuel with 1 402 votes.
Other candidates, Johannes Martin of Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) is in the third position with 326 votes, followed by Vincent Asser of All People’s Party (APP) and Mandume Andreas of Congress of Democrats (CoD) with 97 and 31 votes respectively.
