A 27-year-old Angolan man has arrested for murdering two little boys and injuring an old woman at the Okafilu ka Katanyange Village in the Outapi constituency of Omusati Region on Thursday evening.
Namibia Police Force spokesperson in the region, Inspector Linekela Shikongo, said the incident occurred around 00:00 and that the suspect was arrested on Friday afternoon around 16:30 at Onhimbu location in the town of Outapi.
“It alleged that the suspect entered the sleeping room where the two children, the 12-year-old Linus Ndapuka and the eight-year-old Thomas Malakia and the elderly woman, Jakobina Johannes, were sleeping. He used a hoe handle and a piece of mopane wood to beat them repeatedly which resulted in the death of the two boys,” said Shikongo.
He added that the suspect continued to beat the elderly victim all over the body whereby she sustained serious injuries.
The severely injured old woman was rushed to Outapi District Hospital, where she was admitted and said to be in a serious condition. Shikongo said her age is still unknown.
“It is reported that the suspect is the grandson of the surviving old woman,” he noted.
According to Shikongo it was also discovered at hospital that the old woman was raped by the suspect and a charge of rape was added to the initial three charges of murder and attempted murder.
“The suspect is due to appear in the Outapi Magistrate Court on Monday, on two charges of murder, attempted murder and rape,” stated Shikongo.
He said the next of kin of the two deceased has been informed and police investigation into the matter continues.
