POLICE officers patrolling in the Northern Industrial area last night has led to the successful arrest of a man suspected of murdering his live-in girlfriend with an axe before setting alight their shack with her body inside.
According to Detective Chief Inspector Esther Nangombe, the suspect was arrested last night around 23h00. He is currently getting medical attention at the Katutura State Hospital, but it is not yet clear for what, although there are suggestions on the ground that it is because of a failed suicide attempt.
“At this stage we’re not sure why he was admitted. The Investigating officer is yet to go to the hospital. He was arrested by operation officers and that is why the investigator is still not aware. The suspect will definitely be charged today and he will hopefully appear in court tomorrow,” Nangombe said.
The suspect reportedly killed Katrina Kasita after an argument erupted between the two during the wee hours of Sunday. He then set her shack on fire in an attempt to cover up the crime.
According to the police, the docket is currently being handled by the gender-based violence unit.
A source informed Informante that the suspect was apprehended at a local service station in Windhoek’s Northern Industrial area.
