Algeria won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for the second time in 29 years after they beat Senegal with a single goal scored in the first two minutes of the final match of the tournament.
Barely two minutes into the match Baghdad Bounedjah shot at goal but the ball was deflected from the leg of Salif Sane. The ball went straight up in the air only to dip down far enough at the last moment to go into the net.
Senegal was in the game for only those first two minutes of the first half of the match. A flurry from them in the last 25 minutes saw striker M’Baye Niang running onto the goal but kicking it wide.
Youssouf Sabaly took another dangerous shot from outside the box which Algerian keeper Rais M’Bolhi only just managed to punch over the bar but the sengalese player did not manage the equaliser.
Drama ensued as Algerian defender Djamel Benlamri needed medical treatment after being hurt in an aerial collision with Sadio Mane.
The match went into added time but in the end the Algerian team prevailed and lifted the AFCON Trophy high in front of fans that filled the stadium.
