Q-base

How did you get into radio?
I got into Radio in my second year at UNAM. It was an outlet for my passion for music, and a way to make a little extra money for myself.

What is your show about?
Currently I’m on the Morning Mix, a fun and energetic breakfast show, covering current affairs and a variety of social and socio-economic issues. Even though we tackle serious topics for the most part, the approach is light-hearted and filled with candid humour.

What inspires you and your work?
Radio gives me a platform from which to influence others, influence what they like and don’t like, and sometimes even influence what and how they think. This is what drives me, the fact that I can use my disposition to influence positive change in others. It takes a nation to build a nation, radio gives me a significant, meaningful way in which I can do my part.

Who is your favourite Namibian singer/band?
I love Gazza and Sally Boss Madam. But right now, Ethnix are at the top of my playlist. This is a truly dynamic duo, and the fact that they interchange languages all the time coupled with their unique sound, makes them a true representation of Namibian music.

Worst/funniest things that happened on air?
Every time I’m asked this question, I remember an interview with the late Hugh Masekela. It was my first time hearing his name, and I just couldn’t wrap my tongue around it. I can still see the disgust on his face when we finished the interview. Sorry Bra Hugh.

Please share some advice for aspiring radio presenters
Be yourself. It’s scary I know, but it is the only thing you can do perfectly, with consistency. Your listeners, no matter who they are, will be able to see through whatever façade you think you can put on. May not be immediately, but eventually they will.

If you were stranded on an island, who are the three people you would deem necessary to have with you and why?
My wife number one, cause I would never hear the end of it if I left her off this list. Plus she brings me prosperous serendipity.
Then I would like Jackie Chan, cause I have always wanted to learn Martial Arts, and with all the stunts that he does in his movies, he would make the perfect Master. Remember, my wife is here too, so this is gonna keep me ‘busy’ during the day.
And then Elon Mask. He is one of the richest people on the planet, I know there will be an entire army looking for him. So it’s only a matter of time before our transport shows up on your hypothetical island.

Are you reading any good books at the moment?
I am not reading anything at the moment. I am however, writing one… J

Elaborate on your all time favourite TV show.
This answer will probably change at least once a year. I can however tell you that right now, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is my favourite. I like his perspective on things, and I find him funny. His story is also an inspiration for many young African entertainers.
