THE application period for student permits for the 2027 academic year will open on 2 November 2026.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security wishes to inform the public, particularly prospective foreign students who have enrolled or intend to enrol at educational institutions in Namibia, that applications for Student Permits for the 2027 academic year will be accepted from 2 November 2026 to 26 March 2027,” the ministry’s Executive Director, Daniel Nghidinua, said.
He urged prospective applicants to submit their applications within the stipulated period to allow sufficient time for processing. He emphasised that the deadline would be strictly enforced and that no extensions would be granted.
Nghidinua announced that the prescribed annual Student Permit fees are N$1,600 for primary and secondary education and N$2,200 for tertiary education. The applicable fees are payable upon approval of the application.
“Applications for courses lasting less than one year may be submitted at any time, provided that the applicant has received an offer from the relevant educational institution. Such applicants are required to apply for a Student Permit and await the outcome of their applications while outside Namibia,” he continued.
Nghidinua stressed that all applicants are required to comply fully with the stipulated application requirements. He explained that application forms must be duly completed and signed, and certified copies of all required supporting documents must be submitted.
“The Ministry further wishes to emphasise that approval letters and acknowledgement receipts issued in connection with Student Permit applications do not constitute valid Student Permits and may not be used as proof of a Student Permit at any port of entry into Namibia,” Nghidinua said.
He urged prospective foreign students to familiarise themselves with the application requirements and ensure that their applications are submitted correctly and within the stipulated timeframe. He also warned that those found to be in violation of the applicable immigration laws and Student Permit conditions would face consequences.
“The Ministry cautions prospective foreign students against applying for Student Permits without the genuine intention of attending classes and subsequently engaging in business or other activities inconsistent with the purpose for which their permits were sought. Appropriate action will be taken against students found to be in violation of the applicable immigration laws and Student Permit conditions,” Nghidinua said.
Application forms are available on the Ministry’s website at www.mha.gov.na.
