Windhoek urges water conservation amid drier rainfall outlook

Staff Reporter

THE City of Windhoek has urged residents to conserve water amid a forecast of below-normal rainfall and above-normal temperatures across Namibia during the 2026/2027 rainy season, with rainfall between October 2026 and March 2027 expected to be 100 to 150 millimetres below normal.

The Namibia Meteorological Service has warned that the coming rainy season is likely to be hotter and drier than usual, raising concerns about water availability and the need to safeguard the city’s water resources.

The City has encouraged residents to read their water meters daily, check for leaks and repair them immediately to prevent unnecessary water wastage.

Residents are also urged to adopt water-saving measures and use water responsibly to help maintain a sustainable water supply for the city.
