TWO suspects aged 27 and 31 have been arrested and their vehicle impounded after they were allegedly found transporting copper ore without a permit.
A cash amount of N$5,400 found in the driver’s possession was also seized.
The suspects were apprehended on Saturday evening at the Alpha Roadblock in the Opuwo policing area of the Kunene Region.
“Police at Alpha Roadblock stopped a motor vehicle with two occupants and, upon search, they discovered five bags containing copper ore and the driver failed to produce the required documentation,” police said.
The value of the minerals has yet to be determined.
The two suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday on charges of removal and transportation of minerals, disguising the unlawful origin of property, aiding or assisting another person to benefit from unlawful proceeds, and acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of unlawful activities.
