Sub-editor
Digital News
(1 x Windhoek)
Informanté is looking for a dynamic, sharp, dependable and driven Sub-editor to help deliver accurate, engaging news across our digital platforms. You will work with reporters and editors to take stories from draft to publication, making sound editorial decisions when news is moving quickly.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Edit news stories for accuracy, clarity, structure, fairness, grammar and consistency.
- Check facts, names, figures, dates, quotations and source material before publication. Verify information, images and video emerging from social media before they are used.
- Write clear headlines, introductions, summaries and social posts that serve readers without overstating the story.
- Prepare and update breaking-news coverage, making changes and corrections promptly and transparently.
- Adapt stories for Informanté’s website, Facebook, Informanté Live and other newsroom channels. Help ensure that video captions, image descriptions and other supporting text are accurate and useful.
- Turn media releases and other source material into original, reader-focused reporting, seeking additional context or verification where needed.
- Work with reporters and the Editor to plan publication, improve copy and maintain editorial standards under deadline pressure.
- Use audience and search insights to improve how important stories are presented and found, while keeping editorial judgement and public interest first.
- Use any approved AI tools responsibly: check their output against reliable sources and never treat generated material as verified reporting.
- Escalate sensitive or potentially high-risk stories to the Editor-in-Chief.
- Any ad hoc duties as may be required.
