Case of fraud opened by Kuugongelwa-Amadhila withdrawn

Staff Reporter

A CASE of fraud in which the former Prime Minister and current Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, was defrauded out of N$159 000.00 has been withdrawn.

The suspects who had been arrested in relation to the matter, namely Phillipus Iipinge, Lott Sakaria and Simon Simon, were refunded their bail money and released from jail after the State indicated that it wished to withdraw the case.

The withdrawal comes amidst statements from the investigating officer in the matter indicating that, although he mentioned that investigations are complete, there is still a document in relation to the case missing from MTC.

The three accused persons are charged with fraud and, alternatively, theft, after the accused allegedly called Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and pretended to be Riaan van Wyk from FNB Namibia and thereby induced her to the loss of N$159 000.00 without her consent on 5 June 2024.

Accused one and three, Iipinge and Simon, were represented by defence lawyer Murray Shikongo from Murray Shikongo Lawyers during their last appearance.
