THE Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture says preparations for the 2026 national examinations are complete, with venues, markers, invigilators and question papers in place, while results are expected to be released by the second week of January 2027.
Education Minister Sanet Steenkamp told the National Assembly on Wednesday that all 14 education directorates had made provisions for holiday classes to help prepare learners for the examinations.
She said some regions had brought in tutors from other regions, while in Omusati, learners were accommodated at a school as part of arrangements made in consultation with their parents.
Steenkamp said teachers had also undergone continuous professional development in key areas, while inspectors had visited schools as part of quality assurance and motivational talks had been held to prepare learners.
She said the ministry was ready to deliver credible examinations for the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level (NSSCO) and Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS).
“All our venues are already prepared. They are booked, they are confirmed for examinations,” Steenkamp said.
She said all markers and invigilators had been appointed and informed of their appointments, while arrangements had also been made with the Ministry of Finance for daily subsistence allowance payments.
More than 2,000 markers will be involved in the examination process.
Steenkamp said the question papers had been printed and dispatched to the regions, with Kavango East being the exception, as the ministry would deliver the papers to the region itself.
She said the question papers had been securely sealed and that the ministry would ensure they were transported and stored safely before being delivered to examination venues.
“We trust and we believe that with the transportation, with the immediate storage and delivering, we deliver question papers only to the schools in specific areas on that given point, especially to schools who do not have the storage facilities to lock them up,” she said.
The NSSCO examinations are scheduled to start on 12 October and run for five weeks until 18 November.
The NSSCAS examinations are scheduled to start on 19 October and conclude on 13 November.
Steenkamp said the ministry expected to finalise the national examinations and release the results by the second week of January 2027, provided the marking process proceeded as planned.
“Our main aim as a country is to ensure that we deliver credible examinations,” she said.
She added that the ministry would act swiftly should any challenges arise during the examination process, as it had done in previous years.
