THE Oshakati Town Council has announced that the restrictions on livestock sales and related activities, imposed on 25 September as part of national control measures to contain Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), have been lifted.
The measures were introduced following the detection of FMD in Karasburg in the ||Kharas Region.
Oshakati residents and businesses, as well as farmers and livestock owners in the area, were urged to cease livestock sale and marketing activities, as well as livestock movement, slaughter, and the sale of livestock meat and other raw products.
The restrictions applied to cloven-hoofed animals, including cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.
According to the latest public notice, normal livestock activities in Oshakati may now resume.
“Livestock owners are, however, encouraged to remain vigilant and continue observing applicable veterinary requirements,” the Town Council said.
