PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has held separate diplomatic engagements with the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, focusing on multilateral cooperation, Namibia–United States relations, and opportunities to strengthen trade and investment.
On the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Nandi-Ndaitwah paid a courtesy call on Dr Khalilur Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the General Assembly.
Nandi-Ndaitwah congratulated Rahman on his election and exchanged views with him on matters of mutual interest, including strengthening multilateral cooperation and advancing shared priorities through the United Nations.
The President also received Frank W. Garcia Jr., U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, for a courtesy call at the Permanent Mission of Namibia to the United Nations.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss Namibia–United States bilateral relations, as well as matters of mutual interest concerning Africa and the broader international agenda.
Discussions also focused on opportunities to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.
Garcia expressed the United States’ interest in expanding trade and investment relations with Namibia, while Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed Namibia’s openness to investment and emphasised the importance of investors familiarising themselves with and complying with Namibian laws and regulations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and further strengthening bilateral relations between Namibia and the United States.
