THE One Economy Foundation has warned donors and members of the public about fraudulent fundraising solicitations after a donor’s payment intended for its upcoming fundraising gala was diverted to an account that does not belong to the Foundation.
In a statement issued by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Pauline Thomas Kahupi, the Foundation said the payment was made in response to a fraudulent invoice sent from the email address geingosmonika@gmail.com by a person impersonating its Chairperson, Monica Geingos.
The fundraising gala is scheduled for 1 October 2026, and the Foundation has urged the public to remain vigilant as the event approaches.
The Foundation said it acted quickly to have the fraudulent account suspended before the full amount could be withdrawn. It is treating the matter as urgent and is working with the relevant authorities to bring those responsible to account.
Members of the public have been cautioned not to respond to correspondence from, make payments to or share personal or financial information with the following email addresses:

The Foundation said the only official email addresses used for correspondence relating to the 11th Annual Fundraising Soiree are onefundraiser@1economy.org and fd@1economy.org.
Donors, partners and members of the public have been encouraged to engage only with the Foundation’s Director of Resource Mobilisation, Finance Director or Executive Director through established communication channels.
The Foundation also urged the public to check email addresses carefully, verify requests with authorised staff and confirm ticket purchase or pledge details before making any payments.
Anyone uncertain about the legitimacy of a communication is encouraged to contact the Foundation directly through its official email addresses.
The Foundation apologised for any inconvenience caused by the fraudulent activity and encouraged anyone with information about the scam to come forward.
