PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called for young people to be equipped with skills while ensuring viable markets and opportunities for them to participate in emerging sectors, including the green and digital economies.
Nandi-Ndaitwah made the remarks today during the UNICEF Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council High-Level Meeting at UNICEF House in New York, where she participated in a panel discussion on bridging the gap between education, skills and employment for young people.
She highlighted Namibia’s approach to a just and managed transition towards green growth, emphasising the need to equip young people with skills, research capabilities and opportunities to participate meaningfully in emerging sectors.

She noted that Namibia’s green hydrogen ambitions, alongside opportunities in agriculture, natural resources, value addition and energy, are creating new pathways for youth employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.
“Government has to create opportunities, and when you are empowering young people, you should also do your best to create a market for their products. Otherwise, they will be frustrated,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
The President also underscored the importance of strengthening regional value chains through the Southern African Development Community (SADC), enabling young people to collaborate across borders, access larger markets and contribute to regional development.
The meeting brought together global leaders, private-sector partners and youth representatives to identify practical solutions that connect young people’s skills and potential with opportunities in the green and digital economies.
The High-Level Meeting of the UNICEF Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council was held on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
