THE Namibia Airports Company (NAC) has announced the immediate suspension of all procurement processes.
The announcement comes amidst a legal storm that brews over the airports company, after dismissed board member Matthew //Gowaseb said that he would institute legal action against the administrative action taken by the Minister of Works and Transport, Veiko Nekundi, to remove the NAC board.
//Gowaseb claimed that certain relevant facts and legal requirements warrant examination and that the matter will now proceed through the appropriate legal channels after Nekundi removed //Gowaseb and four other NAC board members with immediate effect in August 2026. The other directors removed were Elizabeth Peterson, Lucien Mouton, Carol Williams and Ferdinand Nghiyolwa.
The removal followed an April 2026 investigation by the Works and Transport Ministry that recommended the board’s removal as well as the dismissal of top executives over alleged procurement, governance and recruitment irregularities.
Nekundi’s dismissal of the directors also followed a controversial agreement wherein 19 company vehicles, purchased for close to N$15 million, were transferred to executives and managers after an administrative fee of N$5,000.00 was paid. A deal which had allegedly not been authorised by Treasury.
In a statement issued on 21 September 2026, the NAC’s spokesperson, Dan Kamati, informed all stakeholders, bidders, suppliers, service providers, contractors, consultants and members of the public that all new and active procurement activities are temporarily suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
“This temporary suspension applies to all stages of the procurement cycle, including all procurement activities, irrespective of the procurement method or the current stage of the process, provided that a procurement contract has not yet been formally concluded. This suspension encompasses advertisements through all procurement methods, including invitations for bids, invitation for expression of interest, bid evaluations, adjudications and direct procurement processes,” Kamati said.
He added that consequently, all affected active advertisements of invitations for bids are hereby cancelled and bidders are not required to make any submissions.
“All bids that closed and not adjudicated have been put on hold. Kindly note, this is a temporary suspension. Existing duly executed contracts and agreements remain unaffected and will continue to be administered in accordance with their respective terms and conditions.
Stakeholders are kindly advised that any further updates regarding the resumption of procurement activities, invitations for bids and expressions of interest will be communicated through NAC’s official communication channels in due course,” Kamati said.
