USAKOS will face phased reductions and a full suspension of water supply from 21 September to 9 October 2026, with NamWater urging residents and institutions to conserve water and make contingency arrangements. The corporation said the conditions relate to five years of unpaid water accounts, while the amount owed by the Usakos Town Council has not been publicly disclosed.
Namibia Water Corporation Limited (NamWater) said the phased reduction and suspension follows the failure by the Usakos Town Council to provide written confirmation accepting conditions outlined in a 25 August 2026 letter, or submit an alternative proposal that would achieve an equivalent outcome.
Under the programme, water supply will be suspended daily from 17:00 to 08:00 the following morning from 21 to 25 September.
From 28 September to 5 October, supply will be suspended daily from 17:00 to 08:00, with an additional interruption from 12:00 to 14:00.
From 6 to 9 October, water supply will be fully suspended.
On weekends during the programme, water supply will be reduced by approximately 50%, which NamWater said could result in low pressure and possible outages, particularly in elevated and remote areas.
The phased programme will remain in effect until the outstanding matters between NamWater and the Usakos Town Council are satisfactorily resolved and an acceptable arrangement is formally agreed.
NamWater urged affected customers, institutions and other stakeholders to make contingency arrangements for essential services, increase on-site water storage where possible and implement water conservation measures.
Residents and institutions were also advised to closely monitor water levels to prevent booster pump failure.
NamWater said health facilities, schools, hostels and other critical institutions would continue to receive support through water tanker services where required to maintain access to essential water services.
The corporation urged the Usakos community to plan accordingly and use available water resources responsibly during the period.
