A SELF-DRIVE tourist escaped injury after a black rhino attacked a rental vehicle in Etosha National Park, damaging the car but leaving it driveable.
The incident serves as a reminder that wildlife in the park can become dangerous without warning and that visitors should remain alert and observe animal behaviour while on safari.
According to a warning shared following the encounter, the tourists were inside the park on a self-drive safari when the black rhino approached and attacked their vehicle.

No tourist was injured during the encounter. Although the rental vehicle sustained damage, it remained operational and the tourists were able to drive away and reach their destination safely.
Tourists are advised to exercise caution when encountering wildlife and to consider using experienced local field guides when visiting the park.
The warning also emphasised the importance of observing animal behaviour, as wildlife that appears calm can become aggressive or dangerous within a short period.
