NAMIBIA’s Young Warriors opened their TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations | COSAFA Qualifier campaign with a 1-0 victory over Mauritius on Friday, with captain Lukas Sakeus scoring the decisive goal.
Sakeus struck in the 43rd minute to give Namibia the lead before half-time, with the Young Warriors holding on to secure all three points in their Group A opener.
The Namibia captain was named Player of the Match for his performance.
The victory gives Namibia an important start in Group A, which also includes hosts Mozambique and Seychelles.
Namibia will face Mozambique in their next Group A match on Sunday, 20 September, at 15:00 CAT.
The Namibia squad consisted of Mcheni Kavendjii, Giovanne Tsandib, Timotheus Onesmus, Tuundjakuje Kandingua, Leonard Nghidimbwa, Promise Haitamba, Tino Guiseb, Lukas Sakeus, Andriano Gawab, Willem Nguvali, Robinho van Wyk, Rashid Noabeb, Chris Lee Johnson, Nevio Huber, Junior Ashitenda, Michael Kandume, Gerson Kangume and Suveree Kauzuu.
