Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo has called for the planned inauguration of the Nkurenkuru Vocational Training Centre to be halted, emphasising that key construction projects at the centre have yet to be completed.
This was announced by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology’s (MICT) Kavango West Office, which highlighted that the inauguration is scheduled for 18 September 2026, with Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare expected to deliver the keynote address.

“Sinimbo said the centre should first complete the construction of student hostel accommodation and upgrade its facilities before the inauguration takes place,” the MICT Kavango West Regional Office explained.
According to MICT Kavango West, the Namibia Training Authority’s (NTA) Chief Operations Officer, Epafras Shilongo, said the inauguration is taking place in line with a directive from President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
Shilongo advised the regional leadership to formally submit their concerns in writing if they want the inauguration to be postponed.
“NTA has advertised a tender worth more than N$29 million on Tuesday for the construction of first phase of the trainees hostel, which is expected to accommodate 124 trainees. The centre currently has 208 trainees enrolled across five courses,” MICT Kavango West added.
