NAMIBIA will return to action against South Africa on Wednesday when the two sides begin a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
The series will give the FNB Eagles an opportunity to build on their performances against the Proteas during the recently concluded T20I Tri-Series, while testing themselves against South Africa in the 50-over format.
The first ODI is scheduled for Wednesday, 9 September, starting at 09:30, with the second match to be played on Friday, 11 September, and the third and final ODI on Sunday, 13 September.
All three matches will take place at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
Namibia recently faced South Africa during the T20I Tri-Series, suffering defeats but producing a record-breaking batting performance in their final round-robin match.
In the match played on Friday, Namibia fell 11 runs short of a record chase after South Africa posted 228/4. The hosts responded with 217/3 from their 20 overs, recording the highest T20I total by an Associate nation against a Full Member side.
Jan Frylinck led Namibia’s chase with 72 off 36 balls, while Louren Steenkamp scored a half-century before retiring hurt. Captain Gerhard Erasmus remained unbeaten on 30.
South Africa went on to win the T20I Tri-Series after defeating Zimbabwe by 48 runs in Sunday’s final.
The Proteas posted 205/5 before bowling Zimbabwe out for 157, with Duan Jansen and Bjorn Fortuin taking three wickets each.
Namibia will now turn their attention to the ODI series, with the three matches providing another opportunity for the Eagles to gain experience against a Full Member nation.
The series forms part of South Africa’s tour of Namibia and will conclude on Sunday, 13 September.
