NAMIBIA’s FNB Eagles set a new T20 Cricket International record for an Associate nation against a Full Member when they faced South Africa in Windhoek on Friday.
Namibia posted 217/3 in their 20 overs after South Africa had made 228/4, recording the highest-ever T20I total by an Associate side against a Full Member nation.
Although Namibia could not complete the record chase, their 217/3 surpassed previous performances by Associate nations against Full Members and underlined the team’s batting strength on a favourable surface.
Namibia’s previous record for an Associate nation against a Full Member was a 55-run victory over former T20 World Cup champions Sri Lanka during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Geelong, Australia. Namibia posted 163/7 before Sri Lanka were bowled out for 108.
The performance places Namibia among the leading Associate nations to have challenged Full Member sides in men’s T20Is.
Namibia’s 217/3 against South Africa now adds another landmark to the country’s growing T20I record.
