THE Solar Revolving Fund, under the Ministry of Mines and Energy, financed the electrification of 41 households in the Oshikoto Region during the 2025/26 financial year (FY).

This was revealed in the Oshikoto Regional Council’s Progress Report on Projects and Programmes implemented during the 2025/26 FY. According to the report, 32 households were electrified using solar systems at a cost of N$1.5 million, while nine were connected to the national grid at a cost of N$261,000.

“NORED connected Onandjamba Cuca Shop in Onandjamba Village, with a total of 108 connections, at a cost of N$1.6 million. The connection of Onakandjani Centre in Onaame Village is at the procurement stage and is expected to result in 35 connections,” the report stated.

The report also revealed that the Iimbu growth point in Oniipa was electrified at a cost of N$190,381.52.

“Through advancing rural electrification, NamPower connected grid-based electricity infrastructure to 12 schools, namely Kaatry Imalwa JPS, Twapandula JPS, Dimo Hamaambo CS, Nakandangwa PS, Oshatilwe PS, Oshilimeya PS, Vilho Kamanja CS, Onamatende PS, Ohashihaya PS, Omahiya PS, Onekongo PS and Omena PS,” the report disclosed.

The council acknowledged that access to grid electricity and off-grid solar systems remains a challenge for the majority of rural inhabitants in the region, largely due to unaffordable connection fees and high electricity tariffs.
