A TOTAL of 4,965 gender-based violence (GBV) cases were recorded during the 2025/2026 financial year, with the Khomas, Ohangwena and Omusati regions recording the highest numbers of reported cases.

This was recently confirmed by the Acting Inspector General of the Namibian Police (NamPol), Major General Anne-Marie Nainda, who clarified that previous reports indicating that more than 18,500 GBV cases had been recorded during the 2025/2026 financial year were incorrect.

According to Nainda, the figure of more than 18,500 cases represents the cumulative number of GBV cases reported over the past four financial years, rather than cases recorded during the 2025/2026 financial year alone.

Nainda revealed that, of the 4,965 reported GBV cases, 685 were recorded in the Khomas Region, 540 in the Ohangwena Region and 511 in the Omusati Region.

She further revealed that the Erongo Region recorded 397 GBV cases during the 2025/2026 financial year, while Hardap recorded 388, //Kharas 394, Kavango East 298, Kavango West 147, Kunene 186, Omaheke 209, Oshana 506, Oshikoto 311, Otjozondjupa 183 and Zambezi 210.
