IN the quiet rural settlement of Ovitoto, some 30 kilometres east of Okahandja, Frieda Kaogu (66) sits on a bed and proudly shows off bags which had been handmade by her son, who has gone missing under mysterious circumstances.
Asked what she would like to say to her son if he might be out there, Kaogu breaks down in tears and says that she would be very glad to hear that he is alive.
Kaogu had lost two children. One of her children, a toddler, drowned after being pushed into a dam, and now her elder son, Siegfried Muyanga, whom she described as the breadwinner in the home, went missing on 8 April 2026. Despite the matter being reported to police, the search has yielded little results.
MISSING MAN: A mother from Ovitoto is seeking public assistance in finding her missing son, identified as Siegfried Muyanga.
It is alleged that Muyanga disappeared after leaving home with two other young men, and that she had only been given a torch and a phone and told her son might be somewhere in the bush.
“He had the cellphone and torch, but he didn’t tell me that he had it. He said that Siegfried is just behind the mountains and that he would be coming. But to this day Siegfried has not returned,” Kaogu said.
She added that in April, police searched three times, and twice in May, but that things went silent.
“The two boys were questioned together. I don’t know where I will find my son,” Kaogu said.
