THE Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has announced the interim appointment of Alfeus Archie Benjamin as Chairperson of its Board, effective from July 2026 until 31 December 2026.
According to the Commission, the temporary appointment was required following the expiry of the terms of office of five Board members on 30 June 2026, which left the remaining Board membership below the threshold needed to form a quorum.
“The Namibia Sport Commission serves as the umbrella and regulatory organisation for all sport codes in Namibia. It remains fully committed to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance and is confident that Mr Benjamin’s seasoned leadership will ensure stability and continuity during this interim period,” NSC added.
The appointment was made by the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture in accordance with section 10(1)(a) and (b) of the Public Enterprises Governance Act, 2019 (Act No. 1 of 2019).
The NSC said Benjamin’s appointment would help maintain effective governance and oversight, ensuring that the Commission continues to fulfil its mandate of supporting the growth and development of sport throughout Namibia. The Commission noted that Benjamin brings significant executive leadership experience to the role, having served as Chief Executive Officer of the Municipality of Swakopmund.
“In this capacity, he is the highest-ranking official of the municipality, responsible for providing strategic direction to the entire municipal administration, overseeing all administrative functions, implementing council policies, and ensuring efficient service delivery. His core competencies span strategic leadership and management, policy implementation, financial and human resources management, planning and development, and institutional innovation and improvement,” NSC added.
