Cabinet approves key Namibia–South Africa cooperation agreements

CABINET has approved the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Namibia and South Africa, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as social development, gender equality and legal affairs.

The approval of these MoUs was announced by the Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Wenzel Kavaka, during the recent Cabinet briefing.

He announced that Cabinet had approved the signing of an MoU on cooperation in the field of social development between Namibia’s Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare and South Africa’s Department of Social Development. He added that Cabinet also took note of the finalisation of the MoU on cooperation in social development between the Government of the Republic of Namibia and the Government of the Republic of South Africa.

The deputy minister also announced that Cabinet had approved the signing of a similar MoU on cooperation in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

“Cabinet took note of the finalisation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment between the Government of the Republic of Namibia and the Government of the Republic of South Africa, and approved the signing of the MoU on cooperation in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment between the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare of the Republic of Namibia and the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities of the Republic of South Africa,” Kavaka said.

He also revealed that Cabinet had approved an MoU between the Namibian and South African governments on cooperation in the legal field. He added that Cabinet had authorised the Minister of Justice and Labour Relations to sign the agreement on behalf of the Republic of Namibia.

Kavaka further revealed that Cabinet had also given the green light to the draft Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two countries.

“Cabinet approved the draft Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Namibia and the Government of the Republic of South Africa and authorised the Minister of Works and Transport to sign the Bilateral Air Services Agreement on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Namibia,” Kavaka said.
