NAMIBIA exported meat worth N$1.43 billion during the first five months of this year, underscoring the continued resilience of the country’s agricultural export sector.

The figures were announced by the Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, during the Mid-Year Diplomatic Briefing in Windhoek. The briefing outlined key policy developments, trade performance, bilateral and multilateral engagements, as well as Namibia’s position on selected regional and global issues.

According to Ashipala-Musavyi, Namibia’s export performance remained strong during the first five months of 2026. She revealed that ores, slag and ash continued to dominate exports, accounting for 29.6% of total exports, followed by precious stones and metals, which made up 26.1%, while fish and crustaceans contributed 14.3%.

She said the strong export performance, together with lower import levels, had significantly improved Namibia’s trade balance.

“Namibia’s import profile continues to reflect an economy that is highly dependent on imported energy products, machinery, transport equipment and industrial inputs. However, the decline in overall imports in 2025, coupled with stronger export growth, contributed to a significant improvement in the country’s trade balance and indicates a gradual rebalancing of Namibia’s external trade position,” Ashipala-Musavyi said.

She further noted that Namibia’s expanding investment pipeline demonstrates a diversified portfolio across the economy’s key sectors, supporting industrialisation, export growth and broader development goals.

“Agriculture and food processing remain the dominant sector, complemented by investments in mining and mineral beneficiation, renewable energy, tourism, chemicals, real estate, manufacturing and logistics. All of these contribute to Namibia’s objectives of industrialisation, export growth, food security, energy transition, value addition and sustainable employment creation,” Ashipala-Musavyi added.
