A PETROSOL fuel tanker caught fire this morning after being struck by another truck on the B2 main road between Swakopmund and Arandis.
“It is alleged that a fuel truck belonging to Petrosol Otjiwarongo, operated by a 52-year-old male, the only occupant, was travelling from Walvis Bay en route to Otjiwarongo. At about 25 km from Swakopmund, he found a truck with a Walvis Bay registration number transporting sand from the Swakop River on the road, driving in the same direction, and when they reached the turn-off to Namib Lead Mine, both truck drivers intended to turn right; however, they moved at the same time,” the police revealed.
This resulted in the sand truck colliding with the rear of the fuel truck, causing it to catch fire. The police confirmed that the fuel truck was completely destroyed, but the driver managed to escape, although he sustained injuries. Both truck drivers were taken to hospital.
