A TERRIBLE turn of events saw an 18-month-old toddler killed after being run over by a reversing vehicle at Onamukulo village, while three other people died in separate road crashes in the Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa regions over the weekend.
According to the Namibian Police weekend crime report, the toddler died on the spot on Saturday at Onamukulo village. The child’s next of kin have been informed, and police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 37-year-old Namibian man was killed in a head-on collision on the B1 road between Tsumeb and Otavi on Friday evening.
The crash occurred approximately 20 kilometres outside Tsumeb, involving a Volkswagen Jetta and a Volkswagen Polo.
Police said it is alleged that the collision occurred after the driver of the Jetta swerved off the road while attempting to avoid hitting a warthog. The injured occupants were transported to Tsumeb State Hospital for medical attention. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
In a separate incident, two people died following a head-on collision on the Otavi-Otjiwarongo road on Friday evening.
The crash occurred approximately 30 kilometres from Otavi, and involved a Volvo and a Toyota Quantum carrying 15 passengers.
Police said the driver of the Volvo and one passenger from the Quantum died on the scene. Their next of kin have been informed, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
