Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare has reiterated Namibia’s call for the lifting of the United States embargo on Cuba, stressing that the Cuban people deserve to live in peace, harmony and with human dignity.
“It remains our unequivocal position that the US-imposed embargo on Cuba must be lifted, and the people of Cuba should be allowed to live in peace, harmony and with human dignity,” said Dr Ngurare.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Namibia remains steadfast in its support for the inalienable right of all peoples to self-determination.
“In this regard, we reaffirm our unequivocal support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and for a just, lasting and peaceful solution based on the relevant United Nations resolutions and the two-State solution,” he said.
Dr Ngurare also reiterated Namibia’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Western Sahara, calling for the full implementation of the relevant United Nations and African Union resolutions, including the holding of the United Nations-backed referendum on self-determination.
Namibia has longstanding solidarity with Cuba, and the two states have consistently supported each other. Namibia has established a platform to facilitate donations in support of Cuba during times of need.
Dr Ngurare made these remarks during the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) International Summit in Luanda, Angola, where world leaders gathered under the theme: “A Call for Peace, the End of Wars and Respect for International Law.”
