COMMISSIONER Andreas Shilelo, Oshana Regional Police Commander, is conducting community outreach and information-sharing sessions aimed at strengthening police-public relations and raising awareness of key social and legal issues.
The sessions focus, among others, on alcohol and drug abuse, the Liquor Act, domestic violence, the Witchcraft Act and the Combating of Immoral Practices (Prostitution) Act.
Shilelo recently engaged residents of several villages in the Okatana Constituency, including Ohailulu-C, Iikelo, Ondjodjo and Epanya.
He stressed the importance of community policing and urged villagers to work closely with the police in preventing and combating crime.
Community members were also encouraged to familiarise themselves with the country’s laws to avoid running afoul of the law.
Residents used the opportunity to raise concerns over rising crime in their villages, particularly livestock theft and domestic violence. They called for swift police intervention and a stronger police presence in response to such incidents.
Shilelo assured the communities that the police will continue to engage with the public and respond promptly to reported cases.
