THE landmark commercial blueberry farming project in the Kavango East Region has reached a significant milestone, with 136 hectares now under cultivation.
“We have witnessed an agricultural and industrial breakthrough. Blueberry Namibia now has 136 hectares under cultivation, representing an investment of N$400 million,” Kavango East Regional Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka said.
Hambyuka made the remarks during the recent State of the Region Address (SORA) held in Rundu, which highlighted the region’s key achievements, developments, and challenges over the past year.
He identified the blueberry project as one of the region’s major successes, citing its contribution to employment creation and economic growth. The governor further indicated that the project is set for expansion, with investments exceeding N$1 billion expected in the coming years.
“This project has created 195 permanent jobs and 750 seasonal employment opportunities. Furthermore, an additional N$1.5 billion expansion is planned over the next seven years,” Hambyuka added.
