THE Medical Association of Namibia’s 45th Annual Medical Congress placed the spotlight on the well-being of healthcare professionals, with this year’s event focusing on holistic wellness and financial resilience as key components of a sustainable medical profession.

Held at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek from 10 to 11 July under the theme “Wellness in Medicine”, the congress was funded by Capricorn Private Wealth and brought together healthcare professionals, specialists, medical practitioners and industry stakeholders to discuss the physical, emotional, professional and financial well-being of those working in the health sector.

The congress emphasised that medicine extends beyond treating illness and also requires supporting the doctors, specialists, healthcare professionals and practice owners who care for communities.

Organisers said the programme created opportunities for learning, reflection and professional renewal, while encouraging participants to consider the support systems needed to sustain medical practice in an evolving healthcare environment.

A major focus of this year’s congress was financial wellness, recognising the unique financial pressures faced by healthcare professionals, including practice management, specialised equipment costs, family responsibilities, retirement planning and long-term wealth creation.

Building on the success of previous financial well-being sessions, the programme included workshops on financial planning, investment strategies, private banking, wealth management and long-term financial security.

Discussions highlighted that true wellness encompasses physical, emotional, professional and financial health, enabling medical professionals to confidently support their families, practices and future while continuing to provide quality healthcare.

The congress also explored the changing demands of the medical profession, including the need for innovation, ethical leadership, continuous learning, collaboration and stronger support structures for healthcare workers.

Through its focus on wellness, the event encouraged healthcare professionals to strengthen professional networks, share knowledge and build resilience across the sector.

The Medical Association of Namibia said the congress reaffirmed the importance of caring for healthcare professionals as an essential step towards strengthening Namibia’s health system and improving outcomes for patients.

Capricorn Private Wealth, a partnership between Bank Windhoek and Capricorn Asset Management under the Capricorn Group, said it remains committed to supporting professionals through tailored private banking, investment management, wealth structuring and specialist advisory services.

During the congress, Capricorn Private Wealth and the Medical Association of Namibia also introduced a group of medical interns who will receive on-the-job training at various medical practices across the country.
