PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia’s focus is no longer solely on exporting raw materials, but on adding value to its natural resources through local processing.
She said this upon her return to Namibia on Friday following a state visit to the People’s Republic of China from 5–11 July 2026, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
During the visit, the two heads of state held in-depth discussions on Namibia–China relations under current global circumstances, as well as on international and regional issues of mutual interest.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah also held separate meetings with Premier of the State Council Li Qiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji.
She reiterated that the push for local processing is aimed at creating jobs, promoting industrialisation, and ensuring that the country’s natural resources contribute more directly to sustainable economic growth and national development.
Acknowledging rapid global change and unprecedented challenges, Namibia and China further agreed on the urgency of building robust mechanisms, strengthening institutional frameworks for global governance, and reinforcing multilateral institutions.
