PREPARATIONS are in full swing for the 11th edition of the First Gentleman Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah Sports Tournament, set to take place at the Elia Weyulu Sports Field in Okongo village, Ohangwena Region, from 20 to 23 August.
Attractive prize money is up for grabs across four categories: youth soccer, legends soccer, netball and volleyball.
Registration for teams is already underway and will close on 18 August. A draw for all registered teams is scheduled for 19 August.
The registration fees per team are as follows: youth soccer (N$2,000); legends soccer (N$1,500); netball (N$1,000) and volleyball (N$1,000).
The champions in the youth soccer category will walk away with N$45,000, a floating trophy and 22 gold medals. The runners-up will receive N$33,000 and 22 silver medals, third place will get N$15,750 and 22 bronze medals, while the fourth-placed team will take home N$10,500.
In the legends soccer category, the winning team will receive N$25,000, a floating trophy and 22 gold medals. The losing finalist will get N$13,000 and 22 silver medals, third place will receive N$9,000 and 22 bronze medals, and fourth place N$6,000.
The winning teams in both netball and volleyball will be awarded N$15,000, a floating trophy and 15 gold medals. Second-placed teams will receive N$10,500 and 15 silver medals, third-placed teams N$6,750 and 15 bronze medals, and fourth-placed teams N$4,500 each.
The tournament has become an annual fixture in Okongo, drawing teams from across the region not only to compete for cash but also to promote sports development and unity.
