Staff Reporter

FIVE suspects have been arrested in two separate stock theft incidents reported in the Koes and Coblenz areas over the weekend, with police recovering sheep carcasses and preventing further losses.

According to the police weekend crime report, in the first incident, four suspects aged 18, 20, 26 and 45 were arrested on Friday at about 02:30 at Farm Sissekap in the Koes area after they allegedly killed and slaughtered sheep belonging to a complainant without consent.

According to the police, the suspects were intercepted while loading the meat into a getaway vehicle. Sheep carcasses valued at N$21 000 were found in their possession. All four suspects remain in police custody, and investigations continue.

In a separate incident in Coblenz, at Okauha village, a 25-year-old male suspect was arrested on Saturday between 17:00 and 18:00 after he allegedly stole a sheep from a grazing field.

It is alleged that the suspect tied the animal to a tree with the intention of slaughtering it, but was intercepted before he could do so.

He remains in police custody, and police investigations are continuing.
