Crime and sexual violence cases decline by over 10% in Oshana Region

THE Oshana Region recorded a 13% reduction in overall reported crime and a 12% reduction in cases of rape, domestic violence and sexual violence between the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 financial years.

This was announced by the Oshana Regional Governor, Hofni Iipinge, who revealed that overall reported crime decreased from 11,804 cases in 2024/2025 to 10,267 cases in 2025/2026. Iipinge made the remarks during his recent State of the Region Address (SORA), which aimed to assess the region’s progress and outline future priorities.

“While progress has been recorded in offences such as housebreaking at residential and business premises, assault with grievous bodily harm, robbery, theft, and gender-based violence continues to pose a challenge to community safety,” he said.

Iipinge further revealed that cases of rape, domestic violence and sexual violence declined from 759 reported cases in 2024/2025 to 670 cases in 2025/2026. Despite the positive trend, he said delayed reporting continues to hinder timely access to justice and support services for victims.

“The Namibian Police Force, in collaboration with communities and stakeholders, continues to implement awareness campaigns and preventive interventions aimed at reducing violence against women, children and other vulnerable groups,” Iipinge said.
