UPDATE: Two men implicated in the assassination case of Ondangwa prosecutor Justine Shiweda have been granted bail in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court. Pandeni Petrus Uusiku (30) and Petrus Shikwaya (21) were granted bail in the amount of N$2,000.00 each without any bail conditions, while another co-accused in the matter, police officer Matheus Angula, had his bail extended.
Shikwaya and Uusiku have two separate criminal cases. While they face charges related to murder in Ondangwa and have an ongoing bail application in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court, they also face a separate matter within the jurisdiction of Windhoek for contravening sections of the Riotous Assemblies Act, after allegedly working in cahoots to bribe police officer Angula to have Abner Mateus, who had been an inmate, released from custody secretly.
It is alleged that Angula, between 22 and 27 October 2025, used his position in the Namibian Police to book out a suspect, Mateus, from the police holding cells under the pretence of taking him to hospital, but instead took him to Beacon Guesthouse and thereby obtained a bribe of N$1,000.00.
It is further alleged that it was during this period that the alleged mastermind in the murder case of Shiweda, Mateus, conspired with the other accused in the matter and drew up a plan to murder Shiweda, who had reportedly objected to granting him bail in a previous fraud case.
While they were released on bail in the Windhoek matter, Shikwaya and Uusiku will remain in custody pending the outcome of their bail application, which is ongoing before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court.
